Attached -

The kittens just came home from the vet. Maisie has the beginning of cataracts and the breeder has offered me the choice of swapping her for one of the others. My first reaction was 'thank goodness it's not Pan'.

Light -

I love the light at this time of year, especially in the afternoon.

It looks lovely in windows,

and on stone,

And lovely on gravestones.

And lovely on kittens.

I am tired, but won't be sleeping for a good while yet. It was a pilates night and that always winds me right up.

Faces -

So far I've found these guys around Parkville and Carlton.

Now in Fitzroy.

I guess that the ... person responsible for them (are you allowed to say artist when you're talking about graffiti? Seeing as it is illegal and all?) studies at Melbourne Uni and lives in Collingwood.

Starting again -

It feels weird to me to have just made an 18 year commitment to two little lives. I have been struggling a bit with it. It doesn't tie in well with my infrequent urges to go overseas for long-ish stints of time. It has holed the ship that was my plan to spend two years in Eritrea.

I don't think I was quite ready to give up that person who did things like spend three months in remote Madagascar.

I am in a ripping mood today. The Noro did not work out as a second Noro Scarf. I tried a log-cabin square with an eye towards a rather expensive blanket. Then I saw another blanket at cosmicpluto and fell a little bit in love. So I am thinking of ripping out the yarn and taking up my crochet hook.

And versatil must go. It is more than half done, but every time I knit on it I feel dejected. I am thinking of a second large crochet granny square, because I get obsessive like that, but we'll see.

One more cat photo, for luck. And to remind me I don't want to leave them for a year to go traipsing.

Creatures -

I found this guy on the way to buy food for the cats.

I am having a lovely time with the kittens, often they are running around being mad things, but sometimes they watch TV with me.

And some times they keep me warm and let me knit.

Break -

I am on holidays and I feel broken. I don't feel like going out. I don't feel like staying in. I don't feel like working (though I need to).

This is a reflection on how I feel about knitting (way too hard...) I even offered my self a 'free' trip to the yarn store - a break from the yarn diet - and I was all 'meh'. I have looked at casting on something new but if I can't be bothered knitting what I have, there hardly seems any point.

All I've been doing is (re)reading Dragon novels and napping with the kittens.

Which isn't at all bad, but hardly feels productive.

It looks like I won't be knitting 12 sweaters this year.

Day One -

I fed them, they went mad then they passed out in their basket.

We woke them from their nap in the basket and Pangur Ban napped in the sun instead.

Then he napped on my housemate. He hasn't been eating much.

And Maisie kept a close eye on everything outside.

We curled up for the afternoon - they slept on my tummy while I read and napped. I fed them again, they went mad, running all around the lounge room, beating each other up.

Now they are asleep in the cat tree. After I got them home last night, I realised that a cat tree was needed in very short order if the carpet and furniture were to survive.

They have been using the litter tray and there have been no accidents. They are so fastidious that they call me to come and clean up right after they've been. Maisie has been eating so much that her little belly wobbles from side to side when she walks. Pangur Ban hasn't been as interested.

Tomorrow -

So, I won't be bringing home this many minions kittens, but tomorrow will see two new additions to the household. I feel equal parts lookingforwardtoit-ness and terror.

This is Pangur Ban sitting with another cat. It is likely he will end up this colour when he grows up.

And this is Maisie - I am now desperately in love with her. Last visit she didn't seem that impressed by me. She is a little younger than Pangur Ban so the breeder suggested I take the girl from Pan's litter. I knelt down and reached out my hand to the girl and Maisie trotted up, planted her butt down in front of me, looked up and said hello. Then she sat on my lap twice and claimed the cat bed three times. I felt like I was being told exactly who was boss and who would be making all the decisions. She's little, but she's got plenty of sass.

Kitty Pi -

I used some old Bendy I had in my stash - five strands of 3 ply held together (The project stayed in the one spot from start to finish - and I am thinking I won't have success knitting another one once the kittens arrive)

I tried to felt it in the washing machine but it didn't get hot enough, so I felted it by hand in the kitchen sink.

I took it to the kittens so that it will be familiar when they come home. Two older kittens immediately checked it out and, while they look placid here, they started a death match with the bed right after I took the picture.
