This is just to say -
I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold

If you could choose an afterlife -

I write reports. My cats lie in the sun.

Hiatus -

But here is a picture from before the flu took me down.

When I get well, I may even finish it.

Shadow cats -

I have done nothing for the last four days except feel sick and watch the cats play. Seeing as I don't want to share the first, I'll share the second (sorry, Lisa, I suspect you'd prefer the first).

They like to attack little marks on the wall, and each other, and insects, and imaginary things, and their shadows.

They are getting more and more agile (in a really terrifying way) sometimes it looks like they are levitating, not leaping.

The doctor told me I have the flu flu, not H1N1 flu and told me to go home, drink plenty of fluids, eat fruit and take the course of antibiotics he proscribed. I did the first three things and ignored the fourth. There has been no craft. No work. No reading. Just sitting. With cats.

How to spend a Sunday -

This is the second cast on of Pavonis. The needles were too small the first time, 4mm is much better for this yarn (Handmaiden 2ply cashmere - is it still about? I can't find it.) It is a nice restful lace pattern, though it has taken me a little while to settle back into lace knitting and to go with what I know about lace, rather than what I think the (Finnish) pattern is telling me to do.

The only thing I haven't done properly is set myself up with snacks and tea so that I don't have to move. The cats get so disgruntled when their heated mattress (me) gets up to go and do something.

But, with me being so warm compared to the alternative, they quickly forgive me for so disturbing them.

They have taken a step further down the path of using the toilet (the human toilet, not the litter tray) and I am happy about that.

On the way to chai -

I had delicious chai at Min Lokal on Sunday. I am sad that Wild Flour is no longer there, but I will be back for more chai (sweet and good and bonsoy).

I found a (working) kettle on the side of the road on the way there, but didn't pick it up because I didn't want the guy I was meeting to think I was weird. That was dumb, because it wasn't there on the way back and just compounded a day of folly that had included going to the ATM, getting distracted at a crucial moment, taking my card back and leaving the money. The money wasn't there when I went back either.

Resentful -

This week, all I have done is: get up, go to work, eat, fall in to bed. The only reason I am not in bed right now is that there was a meeting this afternoon and it ate into marking time which is now eating into sleeping time.

Oh, and kittens don't help with marking. They are downright disruptive. I turfed them off my lap in disgust, so they started playing 'Drop the mouse in the shoe and fish it out again'. They have gone mad. Pan has fallen out of his tree twice already.

Comic relief is helping a little.

The large crochet blanket of enormousness -

I can't stop. Save me. I have been doing this while listening to the 'Protector of the Small' series written by Tamora Pierce, read by Bernadette Dunne.

The kittens like to sleep on my favourite shawl, when they are not sleeping on me. Wait till they find out about the electric blanket I bought on the way home tonight.
