To the Fringed Gentian
Then whisper, blossom, in thy sleep
How I may upward climb
The Alpine path, so hard, so steep,
That leads to heights sublime;
How I may reach that far-off goal
Of true and honoured fame,
And write upon its shining scroll
A woman's humble name.

Sudden rush of blood to the head projects that I want to cast on for, but can't because I already have too many damn projects going and I can't do any knitting till the end of the week, and even then not much, stupid work commitments getting in the way of yarn, calmly now, soon it will be the holidays -
Mermaid Gloves in my beautiful Sweet Georgia colourway Angel. It is pure wool, so I don't want to use it for socks because the pure wool ones wear out to fast.
Scarf, inspired by Brooklyntweed's striped Noro scarf. I want to use some monet Colinette Cadenza I bought at the Port Fairy Folk Festival and some brown Naturally Harmony I got from Clegs a while back.

863. When You are Old
WHEN you are old and grey and full of sleep
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;
How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true;
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face.
And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead,
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.
William Butler Yeats

Bugger, I found another one -
Well, I didn't find it, but I remembered it when I went looking for my 4.5mm addi circ to start a new project with very very old yarn.
So the remembered project was a reversible cabled stole in Kidsilk Haze Meadow. I started this one as a practice one to see if it was a worthy pattern to make for my Mum. I decided it needed to be wider and longer for Mum and in Mist and then couldn't be bothered with the pattern any more when I went back to mine.
The vest is going to be made of wool that came from my Grandma's stash. She bought it when she was sick to make cushions, but ran out of time, so it has been waiting for a good 30 years now.
I'm making the vest with the help of the lovely Mrs Walker.
I wonder where that stole is, did I see it when I moved house? Where have a put it? If I found it, would I finish it?

I knew there were more WIPs than that -
Oh, yes.
I began the Eyelet Chemise from Summer 06 Interweave Knits. It is languishing because I changed it to top down, in the round, but muddled up where the eyelets should go. Every time I think about it, I get grumpy.
And a garterlac dishcloth. Again, stonkered, the love is gone.

Langushing in a Draw Somewhere Projects -
The grey version of Madli's Shawl in Wendy Dennis 4ply wool/silk (so soft, so delicious).
Wrist warmers (started off as Jaywalkers, but I changed my mind) in Trekking 100.
Jayne Hat (only about four rows to go on the last ear flap)
A top down jumper that is too short and needs its cast off ripped out so that I can make it longer so that it will be worn. I used to think the wool was quite nice ($ a ball Patons grey boucle), but now it is irritating me.
Vine lace scarf out of a pink/purple varigated yarn from the Bendigo Sheep and Wool show. I must have started that thing at least 3 years ago.
A jumper that my mum started that has been handed over. An extremely 80s number in cream wool.
I think that is all, unless there are others lurking.

Roll Call for WiPs - Knitting that has been worked on in the last four weeks
Spindleshanks Jumper - Based on the Seamless Hybrid by Elizabeth Zimmerman, inspired by Brooklyntweed, using Jo Sharp DK Wool Tweed in Blueberry on 4mm Addi Turbos with a bit of leftover DK Silkroad for the hems, started Monday 28th of June.
Batwing Shawl II - Using the Irish Diamond Shawl pattern in Folk Shawls by Cheryl Oberle. This is the second time I have knit this shawl, thus demonstrating the dulling effect time has on all pain.
EZ Mittens - From the pattern in Knitting Around, using Naturally Haven 4ply on 3mm Clover bamboo dpns.
Toe Up Socks - My first pair of toe ups, made using a pattern I made up which is a combination of a technique a knitter taught me in Shang Hai and a picture of a heel on Grumperina's site. Using Regia Bamboo in two different colours. I have both the feet done in one colour and have just got a second ball from Sockmonster to make the legs.
